Prescription discount card program set to launch.
The City of Colorado Springs on Thursday, April 2, 2009 will launch a program to help provide residents within the City limits some relief from the high cost of prescription drugs. The program is free to the City and residents. The City announced plans for the program on January 27, 2009.
The city is making free prescription drug discount cards available to city residents through a partnership with the National League of Cities (NLC). The discount cards will offer city residents an average savings of 20 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs.
The discount cards may be used by all residents of Colorado Springs and has no restrictions based on the resident’s age, income level, or existing health coverage. The City of Colorado Springs card can be used when purchasing prescription drugs at approximately 75 pharmacies around the city, as well as at more than 59,000 participating retail pharmacies across the country.

High school poets to compete for grand prize in "Lyrical Lounge" competition
On Saturday, March 14 at 6 p.m. at the City Auditorium's Lon Chaney Theater, 27 students from six local high schools will compete in the City's "Lyrical Lounge" poetry competition for bragging rights and the grand prize of a sponsored after-prom party for their school. Nationally ranked slam poets "Slam Nuba" will be special guests at the event.
Lyrical Lounge is a new program sponsored by City Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services, Recreation Services Division designed to let teens at local high schools express themselves through poetry and give them more opportunities to participate in activities beyond traditional interests such as team sports. This program is one of the ways the City works to develop relationships with local school districts to support academic and extracurricular activities through youth activities.
