2008-2009 City of Colorado Springs snow response
The Street Division has 45 snow routes and is responsible for maintaining 7,423 lane miles of road within 194 square miles. Once a storm has ended and the primary and secondary routes are treated, if needed the City will send crews to make a pass through neighborhood streets by grid, as possible. (If a road is passable, it may not need to be treated even if it's still snowy). When necessary, plow drivers will clear or treat a single lane within the most hard-hit grid areas first. During a snow storm the City has access to up to 126 trained equipment drivers, normally 63 people per shift, and up to 82 vehicles used for snow removal: 54 snow plows (33 tandem heavy trucks and 21 bobtail single-axel trucks), ten 4x4 pickup trucks with plows, 11 front-end loaders, and seven graders.
